New for June 2024 at the Rare Breeds Centre

See whats new on the farm this June!

With the return of sunny days, there's no better time to book your visit to our farm. Come and enjoy the fresh air, beautiful landscapes and meet the new additions!

meet our new bull gimli

We are thrilled to introduce Gimli, our magnificent new English Longhorn Bull. Gimli is a striking addition to our farm with his impressive horns and gentle manner. He’s arrived at our farm to breed with the Longhorn heifers, meaning that he'll be key in preserving a rare, ancient native breed of cattle. Gimli will be kept in quarantine until Saturday 15th June, and then he will be homed in the field with the heifers.

Ivy and Fig - rare breed pigs

Meet Ivy and Fig, our newest piglets who arrived on the farm just last week. They are Oxford Sandy and Black pigs - a rare breed which has been on the brink of extinction a couple of times, but is now making a comeback and growing in popularity.  They will be homed in the pen as you walk across the bywalk to the left, opposite the adventure playpark.

the cutest new additions: Lionel and friends

Say hello to Lionel, our newly adopted Swiss Valais Blacknose lamb. Known for their endearing appearance and friendly nature, Valais Blacknose sheep are often referred to as the cutest sheep in the world. Lionel is no exception, with his fluffy coat and sweet face. He's quickly settled in and is already making new friends including his besties Bugsy, a Border Leicester sheep, and Vinny who is a Zwartble sheep. All three are very friendly and love posing for a picture! Lionel is attending 'sheep school' and undergoing training exercises to prepare him for his big new role in our Children's Barn where you’ll be able to pet and stroke him.
