We are very pleased to introduce our exciting new addition to The Rare Breeds Centre.

Meet Norcliffe Lady Rhona, our very beautiful new Shire mare, who arrived from North Shropshire.

Rhona is 17.2hh high, eleven years old and her breed is on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust’s watch list as endangered, meaning there are only 500 – 900 breeding female shires in Britain this year. Her father was a supreme champion and sired many champion foals. This makes her very special.

Rhona is a veteran when it comes to meeting the public as she was at Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre in Cheshire for a while. Her last owners say she has always been gentle and kind and very patient with all their visitors.

Since she has been here Rhona has settled in very happily and has made friends with Minnie our Shetland pony, Bambi our miniature horse and our donkeys Morse and Jack, who keep her company in their field.  She is very friendly and loves a fuss and we are very proud of her. ‘

You can meet Rhona in her stable at The Children’s Barn seven days a week from 10.30 am – 4 pm.
