The Rare Breeds Centre was opened in 1992 by Canterbury Oast Trust who purchased Highlands Farm. It is a crucial part of the charity's work to involve people who have learning disabilities in the conservation work. Life skills projects for people with learning disabilities who live on the farm or from the community of Kent and East Sussex include care and support of the animals and growing and nurturing plants and vegetables.
