Fun Family Dog Show

Sunday 3rd July

The sun shone at The Rare Breeds Centre in Woodchurch all day on Sunday 3rd July where the 3rd Annual Fun Dog Show was held in aid of the Canterbury Oast Trust.  Record numbers of dogs and their owners turned out for the event which included 20 classes. The judges had a very difficult job as the standard was exceptionally high this year.  The largest class of the day, with over 30 entries, was The ‘Most Handsome’. The winner was Kurzon owned by Marie Cowman from Cranbrook. ‘The Dog the Judge would Take Home’ was won by Digby owned by Ella Gilbert from Marlow, Bucks and the ‘Most Appealing Eyes’ was won by Barney owned by Pam Wright who works in the Rainbow Nursery at the Canterbury Oast Trust.  The Fastest Sausage Eater was won by Bryn who wolfed them down in 2.69 seconds. The ‘Fancy Dress’, which was the most difficult class of the day to judge, was eventually won after great deliberation by Geoff Pride’s Ruby Tuesday who was dressed as a baby. 

We had a visitor all the way from Scotland. Buster, who is an American Staff and Bull Mastiff, was here with his owner Brian McFarlane. Other loyal competitors were Macey and Lily who were here again this year with their owners Caroline Loughman. They had driven down from Yately in Hampshire. As Caroline said, “We came last year and enjoyed it so much we had to come again”

The show was sponsored by Purina and other local businesses like Little Silver Country Hotel, Ashford International and Companion Care Vets amongst others, enabling every penny raised which totalled £ 2720 going to this very worthwhile local charity which provides homes and care for people with physical and learning disabilities.
