Burghley - our new horse

After months of contacting all the rescue centres in the surrounding areas trying to find a replacement for Arthur (which was a very difficult task), we found Burghley at Imber Court which is the Police Mounted Branch training centre at East Molsey.

When we went to view him, we fell in love with him straight away as he was so cheeky and obviously used to the public and lots of noise.

Burghley is a 16hh Bay gelding and is 16 years old. He was purchased by the Metropolitan Police in May 1998 when he was 4years old.

From October that year he was at West Hampstead for four years and moved to Kings Cross stables and another rider in May 2001.

During this time he took part in the Police Activity (demonstration of agility and skills etc).

In 2005 he moved back to West Hampstead where he stayed until May 2007, when he was moved to Lewisham.

It was decided to move Burghley to Imber Court in January 2008 to become a training horse for the new and novice riders joining the Police Mounted Branch.

He now has a home for life here at The Rare Breeds Centre
