The Baa Baa Charity Walk/Run - a great success! The BaaBaa Charity Walk Run took place on Sunday 11th of July and was an enormous success. The primary event was a sponsored 5/10km walk / run, but there was also a 1km walk for junior walkers. The glorious weather meant that an encouraging number of people participated including some of our very own residents. This has raised the profile of Canterbury Oast Trust in the local community along with some welcome sponsorship money. For the last three years, Romney Marsh Rotary Club has organised a walk / run for local charities as a vehicle for raising sponsorship money. This is the first year that Canterbury Oast Trust has joined in and we expended considerable effort in publicising the event and exhorting walkers to support our very good cause. The event was held at St Martin's Field in Romney Marsh and consisted of either two or four laps of the 2.5km course that ran through the surrounding area. The day was bathed in brilliant sunshine and a record crowd gathered on the field. Excellent marshals were provided by the Rotary Club who even had a helicopter flying over the event to keep an eye on the wellbeing of the participants. Many other amusements were on offer including a bouncy castle, face painting and a barbeque. Someone had even improvised a shower to cool down overheated walkers. The charity had a visible presence including a group of residents and staff (from Rosemary Cottage, Warren Mews, Old School House and Farm House) who were resplendent in the brand new Canterbury Oast Trust T-shirts. The walk went extremely well with all abilities being catered for and a splendid time was had by all. This success means we are all looking forward to next year's walk, which should be even bigger and better! - Rita Mathur |
