Pekin Bantams

Pekin Bantams

A true bantam breed of miniature chicken which has no large fowl counterpart. The Pekins are gentle birds, good layers of small eggs and are great mums. They also make lovely pets for children. The Pekins were allegedly stolen from the emperor of China around 1860 towards the end of the Opium Wars and were imported and presented to Queen Victoria, although other sources say they were imported in 1835 and were given the name of ‘Shanghais’.
