The donkey, a domesticated member of the Horse family has been used as a work animal for many years. A male is called a ‘Jack’ and the female is called a ‘Jennet’. Typically, they give birth to a single, although twins are rare. The donkey is a long-lived animal, and can live up 30-50 years and sometimes even longer, particularly when in captivity. Donkeys can vary in size, measuring from 80-160cm (31-63”).
